Sudden, violent shaking in front-end

I was driving down the freeway at about 80 mph when my front end started to shake violently. I thought I'd blown a tire and pulled over right away, but my tires were fine.
I got back on the freeway and drove 30 miles at the same speed w/ no further incident. (Was I just really lucky?)
I'm gonna drive my wife's car until I know this one is safe to drive. (She can drive the Jeep.) No sense taking any crazy chances!

It's possible the some cooincidence of imbalances all lined up at once but this still requires full inspection of partucularly front end parts - all of them! Shocks, bearings, joints bushings - the works,

What is this car anyway? In some vehicles when there's too much steering free play they can do this even though most items may check out fine. Engine off, steering wheel straight ahead - how much is free before you feel resistance. Some steering lash in racks or recirculating ball types are adjustable........

No joke - Montana and parts of Minnesota I think?? Used to be called R&P = "reasonable and proper" so essentially no speed limits in certain areas of open highway. Still I understand it's mostly nuts!
PS: The spec for the Eisenhower Interstate Highway system was to make/design them to be safe for 85 MPH were possible!

Not sure about Minn, but Montana and Nevada had those, up until the mid-70's. There are a few areas left in WA and OR where 70mph is allowed. On I-5, only. Maybe I'm getting old, (Okay, I am old ) but when I'm doing 70mph, I'm thinking tires, brakes, deer, elk, other drivers, ect. So many things can go wrong.

Sorry to mess up the point. It's imprudent to drive too fast which IS the point legal or not.
Yes - there were places with no limits. AYOR folks!
Side note is the vehicle shouldn't have reacted that way if anyone cares now??
