Saturn ABS problem Sign In

We are 1500 miles into Mexico and our ABS light and brake light comes on sporadically. When you turn the key off and leave the auto for a while it comes on for a few seconds, then turns off. If you back up or go over bumps the lights both come back on. We seem to have regular brakes. Can we drive back to Arizona safely enough? Thanks a bunch!

If you say that the brakes feel normal it’s probably all right to drive, maybe make sure the brake fluid reservoir is full.
What maybe happening is that a wheel speeds sensor or a connection somewhere is going bad. The ABS computer is seeing this and shutting itself down, causing the lights to come on, disabling the system. It wouldn’t hurt to have the mechanical portion of the brakes inspected before you head out that’s just to confirm that the problem is strictly an electrical one.
Once you’re back home and can get to your regular repair shop to diagnose the ABS system.
Dan.

IMPORTANT! The "home" position for ABS is NO ABS just regular brakes. You should be fine. Yellow/amber lights are warnings and red lights on you dash mean you'll probably we walking soon!!

I don't know where you are but hit back if you are in trouble near Harmasillo (sp?) as I know someone there that could help you out. Best, T
