Hey - I bought a YELLOW lilac last year and the place called me and said the one I got was NOT and come get another. Well I didn't move the first one and my back yard abuts lots of woods and of course deer. DANG THINGS ATE ALL BUT ONE BLOOM! It'll make it but it's got to grow higher than they reach. I'm a lilac nut and all others are established and doing fine. It's almost time for them to bloom here and it's going to be a great year for them in general. I wanted to see the YELLOW one!!
I'll try to get a pic of it on the site if it works. I'd be happy to buy food for the deer but not expensive hybrid lilacs! T

I love Lilacs too and also have a yellow one. It is very pale yellow, nothing spectacular. I thought it was going to be more yellow. The deer don't bother my lilacs but they do nibble on the neighbors poplars.

Tom have you ever eaten a deer roast?
One slug from a shotgun will cure your Lilac problem and you won’t need the butcher for the next few months. LOL
Your Lilac’s will love you for ever. LOL
Just kidding PETA we mechanics don’t eat meat, other then your first born if you don’t pay your repair bill. LOL

Tom You may want to try human hair, from a barber shop... I've heard that the human smell keeps deer away, but.... not sure on this one....

I've tried everything which works for are while but these citters get used to it. They even sell coyote urine (Can you imagine the job the collects that?????) and they all worked for a while and as soon as a plant makes it to about 4 feet I'm all set.
I abut 2,600 acres of forest and short of fencing in my yard there is NO permanant solution short of the howletzer!!!!
They are brazen now and I've had to wait for them to move along to snow plow a pretty big driveway.
Hey they are nature's creature and the problem is they are hungry and too many of them for the area. Hunting IS allowed in Marlborough, MA but the hunter's don't like it as it's illegal to use those motorized four wheeled things to get your catch back out of the forest.
Smile, I'm just getting tired of feeding them $150 plants!!!!
Hey - it's the largest open space west of Boston and we love it here.
Dan - Have it cut up in a speghetti sauce and still didn't like venison (sp) never mind a roast! T

Well you could always just fence in the $150 dollar plant with about $300 worth of Fence ;-)

I feel like Napoleon at Waterloo against these critters, or Custer at Little Big Horn!!
If I have to get another one I will get some wire fencing. As said - as soon as these plants hit about four feet I'm all set.
They already destroyed two priceless mountain laurels, three holly bushes I was starting, three rhodadendrons . There's a site you can see my house at which is Map something (not Mapquest) but I will get pics of all this and a dozen lilacs that did prevail over the years.
Yes - I'm an ASE Certified mechanic but I like doing this stuff. Hate it when car work fails which is rare but this hobby is a challenge with critters eating up all your work!!
Just laugh. Wouldn't you just love it if a deer ate a water pump off a car you just fixed??T

Deer didn't eat a water pump, but a groung hog ate the entire wiring from under the hood of one of our 2005 criusers. Dealer loved that repair. Cost was not a factor in this repair. Time was main consideration. I would have to had a tech work on it as a part time deal between his other regular duties.
Being way2old is why I need help from younger minds

I've had some low use cars some antiques that get messed up by critters seeking some warmth no doubt and it's tough sometimes if they really went crazy on wiring! That and makeing nests out of hood insulation. All so far were low use cars.
I've had to use moth balls and keep rat poison in my shop as one side had a vehicle that I don't use much. This is worthy of it's own post because as we know it really happens and for some reason they like the chew wires! T
