Aircon pipe welding Alfa 159 Sign In

Year of vehicle 1999
Make of vehicle (Ford/ Chevrolet) Alfa Romeo

Model of vehicle ( Taurus/ Cavalier)
159
Engine size (2.0/ 5.7) 2.0
Mileage/Kilometer 32.000

Hey everybody,

I've registrated to this forum because of a certain question. The low pressure air con pipe on my 159 has a slice cut through it, caused by the wiper linkage.
Id imagine all the refrigerant has leaked out of the sytem, or on one side of it at least.
Does anyone know if it is safe to get the hole in the pipe welded, (pipe is aluminium I think).
And how useful are pipe clamps for this issue?

OK - A host of issue other than just the hole now are possible even if it can be repaired. #1 I'm surprised even an "exotic" car if you will would place a hose/line in harm's way as you described. Bet is it's already some creation or was moved and not put back in a proper place at some point.

Hoses can be made up and for this car near certainly would need the ends that may or may not cooperate being removed.

I strongly suggest this whole issue be sent out to a VERY well equipped A/C specialty shop to fix or make up new if new OE isn't available.

Just that when fixed a tech still needs to basically guess at how much oil might have been lost or find known spec for the entire system and flush out to empty to add entire amount of oil and refrigerant - exactly always best. This info may be listed on a sticker under hood.

You see the leak so know it lost all refrigerant pretty much for sure. It doesn't end with just this. Do yourself a real favor and find the right place both to repair or replace hose and get system back up and running.

If somehow the leaking was very slow at first this could have caused other issues so any one known fix isn't really possible just yet.

This car by make and the tools needed to make parts if needed then know it's properly back in order is way above DIY work. IMO that line can't stay where it is exactly or this will just happen again so you are paying for some know how as well to fix this.

Your hyperlinks from who knows where are NOT allowed and have been removed,

The short answer is yes, it can be repaired by welding but being aluminum, not everyone is capable of doing that and they do need to do a very good job as as the gas is under pressure and even the smallest pinhole will leak all your refrigerant out.

Hi, what i would suggest you is to get it replaced rather than getting it weld, though it would be costly but would be useful in longer run . Welding might make it work again but the problem might rise again with passage of time.

Thread is actually getting old and original poster never came back so it's kind of a dead thread. It's an Alfa! No telling what OE parts are available? This part was damaged by wiper linkage and IMO shouldn't be near things that can rub a hole in it which is the real problem to solve or just do this all the time when it does it again?

If not linkage to wipers all wrong than this pipe is just placed wrong for some reason perhaps a factory mistake? Welding might allow for moving it some so it's fixed for good. Unless OP comes back we'll never know,
