99 dodge 360 idle problem

truck starts fine but after a minute or two starts coughing and running rough. when temp. climbs a bit it smooths out and it runs great. when started with a warm engine there is no problem. checked the pcv valve, it rattles, so it must be good. haynes tech book says it could be the heat control valve stuck open.i can not find any info on this valve. where is it? please help me out here,this is my work truck.

Check the engine coolant temperature sensor.
