Hi,

I'm new to this site, but it seems like the appropriate place for this question. If not, please let me know. I have a 1995 Nissan Altima with a broken power transistor, broken oxygen sensor, and an exhaust leak. It has an 8 month old new transmission though and everything else works as far as I know. We are ready to just get rid of it, but were wondering if there is a way to sell it for parts or even if the parts are worth anything? If anyone has advice or experience with selling cars for parts please post for me.

Thanks,
Becca

Hi Becca,

Depending on how many miles the car has on it and the overall shape of the car would help make this an easier question to answer. According to kelly's blue book a 95 nissan altima SE Sedan 4Din with 100k miles in fair shape would trade in for $995 and private party sell for $2450.

If you could buy the parts needed.
I looked in the parts catalog above and they would range for:

Catalytic Converter runs from $131 - $171
Muffler $109
oxygen sensor $30 - $115

Nissan Altima Replacement parts

so your looking at about $400-$700 with parts and labor, so if the car is in good shape it might be worth fixing it up. Since if you part the car unless you want to strip it down and see headlights and all piece by piece, its up to you. But I think thats a lot of time to spend on parting out a car. You could always see what a local slavage yard or junk yard would pay....

I think if you stated the overall condition, miles etc and a price - and location you might get some better response. If it's really just a parts car, you probably will do better to advertize local to you. Good Luck, Tom

thanks for your input. We don't really want to put money into fixing it, but at the same time I feel bad about wasting the parts that work. Perhaps we will donate it to some charity and they can fix it and sell it if they want to. Anyway, thanks for taking the time to respond.

Perhaps sell it whole and state that it needs work. I parted out a car once and it took me more time than it was worth. Just an idea for you or folks in the same position, Tom
