safe ,reliable car for teenage daughter

I'm in process of finding a used car for my teenage daughter. She feels more comfortable in small SUV type vehicles. I'm seeing cars in my price range as 2005-2012 BMW X3, Volkswagon Tiguan, Ford Edge or Escapes, Dodge Journey, Chevy Equinox, Jeep Grand Cherokees, Volvo XC90, GMC Acadia SLT. Which of these are the best as far as reliability, safety. I know the Imported cars are more expensive to fix, but do they break down alot or are they great lasting machines? Please help with all your advice!

I would stay away from older BMW's or Volkswagons. They are nice when new with low mileage but they can get very expensive when they get older with higher mileage.
Jeeps are very popular but they have some AC issues. The Fords and the Volvos are fairly reliable.
The main thing is to get whatever you choose inspected by a competent tech.

I appreciate your response. Can you tell me about the other cars I listed? What would your top 3 choices be? All the mileage is@ 90,000-140,000.

Why are there no Hondas or Toyotas in your list. They are by far the top choices.

I wondered if you would mention those makes.
I can’t find Honda’s in the price range and only a few RAV4 appear. I am looking for those, but again, price range. Aside from those two makes, you have advice on makes I mentioned after those? Thanks again!

They are all middle of the road models. If you want reliability, buy a Honda or Toyota.
Most important is have any car inspected, regardless of the brand.
