96 Toyota Avalon (white), not sure engine size, but mileage is 269,000.. it has a huge dent on drivers side , three different parts from a junk yard which includes driver sideveiw mirror , steering wheel & trunk hood which is a beige champagne color and the rest of the car is white, inside of the trunk is missing the bottom piece so its just the metal there. needs new terminal for the battery sometimes i go to turn it on and it shuts off i have to go tighten the terminals for it to run again, it has a little rust, tire tread is about 75% (Only good thing), needs new tie rods, needs new brakes, oil change, and check engine light is on, got a computer to check out whats wrong with it and I found the following.

-knock sensor 2 circuit malfunction
-EGR flow insufficient
-EVAP emission control system press sensor default
-shift solenoid circuit electrical

I just bought this car from my childs fathers friend for $1000.00 , i paid 750.00 up front and owe 250.00 more which they are bugging me about, However I have to get so many things fixed on it I feel I owe nothing. My thing is Im not sure what to get fixed first and whats most important because I dont have any one to help me out and am on a fixed income and x-mas is soon. Any info would be greatly appreciated , thanks in advance.

If you had questions about the value, that should have been brought up and investigated before you committed to the sale and price. This is not the time to renegotiate with someone that extended you credit. That's what's wrong with the world now. Nobody's word is worth anything any more.

Here, typically Hoopties go anywhere from 2 bills to $750, It really comes down to how well it runs and for whatever reason, if the a/c works makes em worth more here.

I'm not there to look at the car or drive it so really can't give a fair estimate...

If you've already negotiated with the guy then its a done deal.....The time to go over the laundry list and work out a price is BEFORE you buy it, not afterwards....

It actually runs pretty good, Thanks for the response, My other question was what do u think getting fixed first would make the check engine light to get turned off? if you would happen to guess or know.

None of those codes are super critical but all of them will turn on the check engine light... Just make a note of all the codes, clear them, drive the car and see which ones come back the fastest...

Since this was your 1st car, in the future, any car you are thinking about buying, it's a very good idea to have a tech check it out. It may cost up to $100 but it's well worth with. To avoid spending needless money, I would wait until you've found the car you're ready to buy, right now, that would be the time to have it inspected, before you put the money down.

Just watch peoples court. Most of those case those people would've gladly paid $100 to avoid the mess they are in now (and 95% of them lose their case because used cars are an "as is sale"). Keep in mind that an inspection may not reveal a future problem but once you get it in the air you would really be surprised what you can find.
