Which economy/mid size sedan to buy?

Hi,
I am planning to buy a used economy or mid size sedan.I dont have a big family;just me and my girlfriend so the car will be used mostly only for two people.I work in Boston downtown so am not planning to drive to work and hence the car will almost always be used for some weekly grocery shopping and weekend trips.
My Budget: Upto 10000 dollars
I have read reviews for a few cars that fall in the range like
Honda Civic
Toyota Corolla
Nissan Altima
Hyundai Elantra
Mazda 3
however am not quiet sure which one will suit me best.Can you guys suggest me (on the above factors)which car i should be buying and what should be the factors i shuld be looking for i.e year,model,mileage etc?

My standard answer to your dilemma is "What car do you like best?" This will narrow down the selection and make you happier because you have a vehicle you like. Good luck.
