Should i make this car trade? Sign In

Howdy all, some much needed auto advice here.

thinking about trading my 1994 GMC conversion van for a 1989 mercedes 300se sedan.

my van has 146,000 miles and has some bad rust in some spots. has a broken antenna, water leaks in the back when it rains and the windows are giing me troubles. (one doesn't work, one only works halfway)

the mercedes has 170,000 miles and only noted problem is a broken radio.

both just passed inspection heres a link to the vans craigslist ad
http://cnj.craigslist.org/cto/1348934924.html and the mercedes craigslist ad --> http://cnj.craigslist.org/cto/1320089735.html

i am very interested in this trade but my dad is hesitant because he says mercedes are expensive to repair so it wont be a good first car. any insight? thanks

Are you talking about an even trade for what sounds like a mess of a Van for a Benz that so far doesn't have huge issues?

Pay and have the Benz totally checked out if so and sell it soon for something more reasonable to maintain as they are among the costliest to repair,

Thanks. It was basically saying "keep the van over the Mers."

You know, This is why people answering questions need to register and log in so they have an identity. Multiple guests all trying to give advice just confuses everyone. Nobody knows who they are responding to.

Guest; I'd take Dad's advice. MBs are very expensive to work on. Parts are about triple in cost of a GM. You can do a lot of fixin' on the GM. Check on the price of a water pump or an alternator on the Mercedes. And, labor costs vs. the GM.

True, but................. Their parts are higher quality and they need them replaced less often.

Just wanted to muddy the water a little..........LOL

Loren - we all know you'll never grow up so forget that idea!

Guest posters: If I have a say that will end soon!
