So i'm looking into a 1999 Buick Century for my first car. it has 67000 miles on is on sale for $1000. only negatives i see are one windsheild wiper doesn't work (easy fix) the a/c only works on high and the car sort of makes a noise and jumps a tiny bit when changing gears sometimes. could this be a sign of a bad transmisson? should i get it? thanks all

Whenever someone is selling a car with obvious problems that they are indicating as minor issues is lieing. Nobody is going to sell a car with obvious defects if they could easily eliminate them and make the car much easier to sell. Chances are these problems are major and they are the reason he is selling it in the first place. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

Another two cents worth; With that few of miles, the price sounds quite reasonable. But....Pay to have a professional examination prior to the purchase. If everything checks out to your satisfaction, make certain it will pass the emission test in your state. The check engine light (or Service engine soon) should come on when you turn on the ignition, then go off a few seconds after the engine starts. If the lamp doesn't illuminate, it's either burned out or they are hiding something. In my state, that would cause you to fail the emission test. If the seller won't let you do this, run very fast away. Loren SW Washington

The A/C only working on high is just a bad blower resister but I'd be real concerned about that jumping thing.

Thanks for the input guys. Yea, im thinking its a real steal if the jumping problem is just the result of lack of transmission fluid or something. i wish i knew a mechanic to come have a look with me.

Make it 4 cents - trans could cost you $1,500 give or take. It's near impossible to be just low fluid without damage. Other knowns and the bargain is lost. Just my thoughts, T

>>ase teknition << Kind of an oxymoron, huh. Sure hope he can fix cars better than he spells. LOL. (btw, there is a spell check button at the lower right corner of the screen). Thanks for the input, anyway. Loren SW Washington

Consider this your one warning about posts like that. trw; NO, NO, NO.. You aren't an oxymoron. An oxymoron is a word or a combination of words that contradict itself. Get it? ASE-teknition? Sorry, didn't mean for you to take it so personally. Heck, I have to use the spell check sometimes, myself. No big deal. Loren SW Washington
