Scan Tool obd 1 and 11

I am looking for advice on a combo scan tool that will read obd 1 and 11.I found a couple but don't know enough to decide what to buy.What are good brands etc for under $200.00 Thanks

For under $200 its prob going to be a just code reader , they all can do the basics . If you can , find one that will give you a definition of the code. A professional scanner such as the type that pro's use go into the $1000's with annual uopdates of $500 +. One of the reasons we charge those outrageous labor bills.

Here are some quotes that may give you a second thought about that.

Just looking for one that will tell me the problem and reset the check engine light.

The only way to turn the light off and keep it off is to repair the affected system . No scanner will tell you precicely what to change or fix they will only will tell you what systems are being affected .Sorta like going to doctor with heart attack and scanner says you just have low blood pressure . If you just turn off lite it will just return. To answer your question more directly , compare features...... covers your make/model ,read the code ,give you a definition of code, and check eng lite reset. Make a list of like units and go for best price
