Hi All,

I am not sure if this is the correct forum as I am new!
I am seeking advice on whether or not I should fix my car or sell it to someone else who may have an interest in fixing the car.

Last week I incurred about $5000 worth of damage to my 2001 Honda Civic Lx 4 door. (so was told)

The right front end of the vehicle is smashed in, the lft is fine. The Rt air bag deployed, the lft did not.

Otherwise the car is in very good shape with about 60,000 miles.
It's servicing is up to date etc.

So I have another car. I do have the finances to fix this (horribly, I was driving without insurance as I raely use this car... fortunately I crashed into a parked car while I was avoiding a head on collision)

Anyhow. The blue book price on the resale of this car is around $10,000
I have been offered about $600 for it.

The car still has a clean pink slip, as the accident was not reported to the DMV...

Should I fix it and re sell it, or should I just take the $600 (can I get more? I think I may be ripped off?) and be done with it...?

THANKS!!

Renee

PS what is the deal with the clean slip vs salvage... I am not even sure if it is a salvage... but do not want to mislead a potential buyer if I do decide to keep the car to fix and re sell.

The first question here is did you take care of the damage on the parked car you hit? It sure wasn't that car owner's fault if it was parked. I don't even want to discuss this unless that was taken care of, T

That's what I wanted to hear. Now............ To fix or junk your car is going to take a realistic estimate of the cost to fix it. Since you are paying for it you just might get a better price for the repairs.

Some places do not allow used air bags and they are pricey. MA now does TMK. To add cost to cost here I would get to your chosen body repair shop and have someone take a look at this car and give you a quote for paying them directly. It may be tricky to find good used parts as most cars get wrecked and totalled from the front but a good yard will find the parts somewhere. New parts should not be necessary for such a popular car.

It's your call. You already know this car. So based on that I think I would fix it. I'm blessed to know auto body folks who can fix a car better than new and if you don't have faith in shops around you factor that in, Good luck, T
