Motor Oil Question

My 2013 Hyundai Accent has nearly 125k on it. The previous owner used standard motor oil. However, I have read where synthetic motor oil is best. Should I switch or stick with the regular oil? I drive less than 4000 miles a year. Thanks!janet

The only benefit you would see is longer intervals between changes and with the low miles you travel that wouldn't really matter. Just stay will a good regular oil and change it at the right intervals. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

It's all I'll use Janet in ANYTHING. Tad different than Hammer is I change by time too. There's an issue with low use engines and machines of all types that use oil for them. When you see dew on glass for example it's also in air above oil in an engine! That bugs me it's mixing in without use of the thing at all is an IMO does pollute the oil no matter what it is. For what is really a small cost I want it out of there for new again = not mixed with IDK stuff. If a car (this case) is in an even climate such as garaged and almost no temp swings I'll allow lots longer. I can't speak for pounding miles those days are over I can't take it never mind in what! You said it was regular oil before this: No problem at all if changed on time the specs are high for conventional oils I know for a fact synthetics tolerate high heat without making a sludge or sticky something too much of that will kill engines, Tom

Use it! It's all I'll use myself. Price it out and find YOUR mechanic, make a deal or if not ask how they handle it. The common 5 qt. containers of synthetic can be found in exactly the grade the car calls for for under $25 bucks! You take less than that so it just gets measured. If you don't want to deal with any of it places do get what you want by brands if asked. Issue with disposal is either of you. IDK what you do but here (New England) it's either a hazmat or if you are honest and sure it's pure used oil, many shops heat with used motor oil would be happy to take it, Tom ;-)
