Considering enrolling in an auto tech trade school but use medical marijuana for anxiety/sleep only, never in a job environment. Wondering if this will be a fatal flaw in pursuing a career in auto repair. Please provide any feedback you may have to offer. Thank you.

This certainly is my own personal opinion on "so called legal" marijuana use. It is in the state I live in now a majority of states I think. So is a list of altering meds or things that can effect judgement all fine except despite being Federally illegal still we still draw a line for work/jobs that could be dangerous to others. If any impairment makes you screw up a repair that can cause an accident with the vehicle YOU touches last be glad I'm not the judge in that case. Go do your auto training and put your whole 100% into it. Dump the use of that stuff legal or not and find some other help that's known to no impair your judgement. Easy call sport, choose what matters to you and a career IMO this is inconsistent with being a dependable mechanic legal for you or not so make your choice, Tom

Tom is right. This trade is too dangerous and most reputable companies will give random drug tests. There insurance companies would never cover you under their policy to drive cars anyway. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

Independent shops do their own and I'm sure there are owners who par take in the 4-20 as well. Any corporate entity can do drug test's as a pre-employment test. Problem us too many study too hard and wind up failing. Ain't no way I'd take anything to a pot head to be fixed. Plus the liability is way to high a risk. Like said talk to an actual doctor, not one you go to get a card. Some schools treat students as they would in a job, they will not allow the use either.
