Maybe I am an idiot you be the judge Sign In

Hey just need a little advice, I live in a small town in Arizona and in my town i found a Crown Victoria, year between 88 and 91 parked behind a small insurance companies building. I've seen this car sitting for over a year with the windows rolled down but never seen it move. Anyways i was walking by today and noticed an older lady by the car i stopped and asked the status of the vehicle and she told me it was for sale $250 cash. The car has apparently been sitting for 2 years due to a dispute between an employee and the company, it ran when parked just had the windows down for 2 years weather and all. Personally i find this to be a great deal considering the value of these cars in good condition. Anyways i guess im just needing a second opinion before i buy the car Thank you for your time

Without looking at it, can't give you a good answer. Can tell you if it was sitting that long with the windows down, there is going to be some water damage or critters living in it eating up the wiring.

Your probably better off finding one that is running.

As long as she has CLEAR title to the car & this "dispute" isn't gonna follow you home, then it may not be to bad of deal....

2 years with the windows down in AZ???? I lived in Phoenix for a year......So does it look like it went thru a border seach??? You ok with black widows?? Do the window go up??? What else doesn't work?????

Well,,,,,you can't get a set of tires & tank of gas for 2 bills......So just realize.....it's gonna need work......& a bug bomb..... So as long as you can do things yourself it may be a good cheap set of wheels....

Take some pics up it and post them up so we can see them. I guess even if the car is a disaster, you could sell the engine (5.0L woo wee) and transmission for more than you paid for it.

According to this lady everything worked perfectly before being parked. Before this company bought it at a police auction i guess it had been a police car.

Way2old would know all about those cars inside and out. He works on police fleets.

my thoughts exactly Discretesignals. I've had my eye on this car ever since i first saw it. Its obvious this car was well taken care of.Other than been left in the weather the interior looks great, no tears gashes, the dash isnt cracked, windows are all there with no cracks just not up. Ive seen no oil spots under the car nothing to show it wouldnt drive now, the tires even have air! where its parked is fairly protected from wind buildings on both sides of it.
ill try to get some pics tomorrow

You could strip it down and scrap it for that price and make a profit. Sucks the window was left down. Its going to take some work to even find out if the motor is any good. Some people just make up stories to sell cars. Hope Way2Old finds this thread, he knows what to look for. Whatever you do, don't try throwing a battery in this and cranking the engine right away. Your gas is garbage. All of it needs to come out and the lines blown out clean, filter changed. Then you need to pull the spark plugs and shoot some fogging oil down each cylinder. Take a breaker bar and turn the engine over a few turns afterwards to allow the oil to lube the cylinders. Take apart the air intake ducting in its entirety to look for mouse nests. Don't touch the heater controls without taking out the blower fan and looking up there either. Sidom mentioned insect issues, and since I'm not from that area of the country I'll guess that can be an issue. Drop the bug bomb in it and save a trip to the hospital. After all things possibly living have died, I would get a shampooer and detail the inside at least to remover the pyrethrin residue that is in that stuff and is very toxic.

If there are any crackheads living inside it, make sure they leave first too. Nothing worse than bringing home a new car to find a damn crackhead still in it.
