Looking to buy a used sedan similar to Acura TSX -- help please! Sign In

I have leased cars for a number of years and am finally in a position to buy a car. I am looking to buy a used car (1-3 years old) without a crazy number of miles on it. A lease on my car now ('09 Acura TSX) is about to end -- its a nice car and i would surely keep it on the list...but what other cars may be in its class for about the same price or lower? I would need Front Wheel Drive or AWD. MPG is a big plus but not the only factor.
Since this will be a slightly used car, it would be nice to have something that wont break down anytime soon and if it does -- id like it not to cost an arm and a leg for the parts.

Can anyone offer suggestions as to what type of sedan's i should add to my list?
I am NOT a car guy, this is the list I have found from searching the web...in ABC order: Audi A4, BMW 3-series, Buick Regal Turbo, Cadillac CTS Sedan, Infinity G37 Sedan, Lexus IS Sedan, M-Benz C Class and the Volvo S40....along with the Acura TSX. Which should I eliminate, move to the top of my list or any cars i missed that need to be added?? thanks!

also--- a bit of a second question --- if a car has been redesigned this year or in the past couple years, is there an added advantage (discount) of buying the car a year prior to the redesign??

Thank you in advance for your help!!

If you like the thing so much, buy it outright at the end of your lease. You've had it since new and like it. You know how its been driven. Didn't see what link you tried to post but HT is good at spotting spam so please don't try that crap as he's not the only one trolling for things to toss in the recycle bin here.

I am so very sorry for posting that link -- not my intent at all. I joined two forums (asking the same question) because I was looking for as much information as I could get. I can promise you i am NOT a spammer...and wont be posting any more links like that. I am serious about the question and hopefully that error on my part wont keep people from offering me help.

I did think about buying the TSX, because I have kept good care of the car, but the price is more than I was hoping to pay --- I have a friend's father who goes to car auctions and he is willing to get me a car (as long as i pay of course) at a good price....though i dont know enough to even suggest to him which cars to look for -- which is why i came here before i drive around to a ton of dealers to actually look at and test drive some cars.

if anyone is still following this forum (after my mistake---which i am once again very sorry for!!), id be very thankful for any help that you can offer!!

If you get one from an auction you'll get it cheaper but without a history. You won't know what has been done o it in the past, how it was maintained or be able to have it fully inspected. Its a roll of the dice and while you may come out ahead its also possible to buy a money pit. If you're looking for cars similar to yours in the same class and want side-by-side comparisons try the website for magazine like Motor Trend or Car and Driver. They evaluate and compare vehicles in the manner you describe you are after and their website should show back issues that contain your current ride and what others stacked up against it in tests. That would be the route I would go. I wouldn't know anything about your car myself. I'm 6'3" and never found a Japanese car I could stretch out in so I never drive them.

It's a friend of a friend going to the auction for me....i think its a dealers auction. by chance does that mean that the cars are or could be inspected...or have a history??

or is there really no way of knowing and making it a bad choice to use it?!

You really need to know what you're doing to buy at an auction. There are some nice car but there is a lot of junk being dumped there too and you need to be able to know the difference and the value.

how much of a drop off in quality and reliability is there between the Acura TSX and a Mazda 3 or Mazda 6? does anyone have any info to offer on those Mazda cars?

Thanks!!
