Well after owning a 2000 mercury grand Marquis since 2008, I have finally got another car to take its place! I got a 2013 Hyundai Accent GS Hatchback. It has less than 125k miles on it. The mechanic checked it out and found no issues. I will miss my Marquis as it was an excellent riding car! I loved it! But the AC went out, the 2 front windows wouldn't roll down and it had a small transmission leak. And it needed a new paint job and some body work! The guy that bought her is actually going to fix her up! She had less than 79k miles so I am happy he loves her so much! But back to the Hyundai, I researched it and it had an excellent record. It is cheaper on gas and has new tires and brakes.at least when the day comes for a new tire here and there, they will be cheaper than the big mercury tires! :) Anyway, I paid $4800 for it and it drives fine. It is taking me a bit of time to get used to a small car! But I am managing! Anyway, just thought I'd share and also ask about this: the car is red (I wanted white but we can't have everything!) and I am going to get it waxed as I saw one small spot on the hood where it has oxidized. It's about the size of a penny. I've heard that waxing a car will help with that (here's hoping)! How often does a car need waxing? I can't afford to do it constantly and I am unable to do it. So Tom and Hammertime and others, would like any info you may want to share! No horror stories please as I looked for weeks to find this car! My mechanic was very patient with me as I must've had him check out at least 5 cars! Oil leaks were a common problem on the others! I had one lady never show up to meet meet me to see her car at Walmart. I think she was actually afraid to! She wouldn't let me come to her house to see it so she chose QM as a meet site. She even texted me that she was there but then backed out of meeting me! Go figure! I had at least 2 cars that I checked out which had been in wrecks! Anyway, finally finding this car was a relief as I was so tired mentally and physically! And one more thing, I bought from a private seller not a used car lot! Yay!janet

No, I won't condemn that car. They are not as tough as the Grand Marquis but it will serve you fine as you take care of your cars.
As for the paint, there really isn't anything you can do for the damage it already has but the wax definitely will protect it from sun damage. The clear coat will erode away over time but the wax will slow that down. You can have those areas refinished if it really bothers you.

Welcome back Janet! Same comments as Hammer about the two types of cars.
What was the ending of the "Panther" cars (Grand Marquis, Crown Vics and Town Cars - same) was TOUGH in comparison.
However where you live, strong guess you don't abuse cars so buying used is both what you start with and the help to make it to your liking.
Ah - the Panthers were not the pigs they looked like at a glance but you'll do better with this. That isn't the only cost to factor either, one nasty repair wipes out fuel costs.
Good luck with it and let us all know how it goes #1 you may find there's no room inside or trunks + hatchback types vs the OMG Lincolns you had!
Paint? Answer when fixed or made to your liking: Find shade! Also find shade (if a tree) that doesn't drip all over it is no bargain either! :-) Tom

Hi, Hammertime and Tom!thanks for both of your responses! I agree with y'all that the Hyundai accent is not in the same league as the Grand Marquis!!! But I had little choice but to get another car and this one was the best I could do in my price range! If money was no object, I would've gotten another MGM or similar! I hope I have done well. Only time will tell.
