Year of vehicle = 2018
Make of vehicle = BMW
Model of vehicle = l4 3 Series 320i xDrive Sedan AWD
Mileage/Kilometers = 46,000
I have in interest in BMW's mainly for their style and appearance. I just think they are nice looking cars. I've been told to do my research and have found that the average reliability rating for a bmw 3 series to be 2.5/5 stars, which I assume is asking for trouble. I'm not looking for anything fast to race around in, although nice to have so I'm very open to models. I'm looking to upgrade the highschool car.
I found a BMW nearby that I have interest in, and am wondering what I should really focus on and be aware of before I go forward towards test driving and diving in with more interest.
For me, buying a new BMW wouldn't work with my budget & what I make. I see how much they depreciate which is a huge turn off for buying new as well. However, the dealer nearby (not where this one is located) I notice 50-60% of their vehicles have 1+ accidents reported and the car prices are very low and appealing. I of course would stay away from those cars, but am curious how safe a car such as the one linked below is in terms of average repair and what not.

I had to delete your link as they are not allowed here.
The last job I had before retiring was for a European shop that specialized in BMW and Mercedes.
I can tell you BMW makes a decent car but once they get older with a lot of miles, they can be endless money pits.
Check it carefully for oil leaks as that is common in those and rather expensive to fix. The valve cover gasket alone is a 5 hour job. The ignition coils go out rather frequently also.

If I were you I would have a mechanic look at any car you buy and I would also get a Carfax too.
You need to make sure it hasn't been flooded or lemon buy back or anything like that.
The BMW will stay pretty healthy to at least 100K miles. After that a lot of the rubber and plastic in the engine starts to deteriorate. The suspension starts to wear out around that time.
The valve cover is plastic and it cannot be removed without lowering the engine and removing all the plastic housing at the firewall.
There are quite a few scheduled maintenance repairs also. There are warnings that go off in the car that require factory scan tools to reset. If you have access to a scan tool you can see when various maintenance routines were performed and when they are coming due.
