First of all thank you for your help. Secondly, pleaaase don't lecture me about being naive or gullible that's not what I came here for. I already know I have been!
I bought an X reg silver Ka from a local used car dealer this evening - I found the car itself on Autotrader. It looked in very good condition inside and out. I took it for a 10 minute test drive and it drove fine and everything felt good. It cost £650 with just under 80k miles on the clock, verified by a copy of the last MOT certificate (which checked out with the database online). The MOT certificate and registration certificate were the only documents supplied with the car, there was no service history or log book. So basically got to signing the registration paper thingy. Now that little green slip for (my) the new keeper's details had already been filled in but the name and first line of the address had been tip-exed out. For this reason the man at the garage gave me the full registration certificate that I filled in with new keeper details should the post office refuse the little green slip when I tried to tax it. When I paid for the car and got home, I noticed I could see the name and first line of address through the tip ex which read: Atlas Salvage, Jackson Street. I googled it and it brought up a scrap company - http://www.atlassalvage.co.uk/. I didn't think the tip ex on the new keeper sheet mattered because I kept it myself which is why I didn't think much of this at the time of buying the car. But now that I've seen it's a scrap company it's getting me worried. I might be being paranoid but I've had a really bad feeling all night about the car and the garage that sold it to me. I just don't want to be driving a car that could be a danger. I can accept the fact that I've been ripped off (if I have) for £650 but I need to know if the car is safe or not.
Only advisory points on last MOT certificate were:
001 Both outer sills corroded
002 Both front chassis corroded
I have no idea what these are - I think it may be bodywork?
What do you lot think about this situation?? I'm not going to be driving it until the insurance policy shows up on the database and I can tax it online.

We have similar things here. Its called a salvage title. In the US the vehicle may be resold after repair from a wreck if inspected, and must have the brand of salvage title. Cuts the value in half. Sometimes the repair work is done very well and you can get a good car. Flood damaged stuff sometimes gets through the cracks with scammers and the title doesn't get branded salvage, with the end buyer getting screwed. I would take this to a good shop and ask them to give it a good look over. By someone else trying to hide it being owned by a scrap company raises an eyebrow for me.

Much of your jargon is unfamiliar to me but think I get the drift. This car was declared "salvage" or "junk for parts" type thing and someone messed with the paperwork apparently when it should have been made clear to you this car was not worth what the damage indicated would cost to fix.
That corrosion I'll call probably plain rust. When structural rust is so bad it is a safety issue - repairing that is frequently not worth it.
You would know better what course of action you can take against the seller or if that doesn't have a chance sell it off as parts only stating what was listed as the reason and let a new owner decide to fix or just use parts for another,
