Timeline of events
1- Car needs to be reved when trying to start the engine. Having to push on gas pedal to get it to completely crank over. Runs fine once started.
2- Car won't start, still allows me to rev it when hitting gas pedal, but will not start.
3- Car stops letting me rev it all together.
4- Battery dies, only get clicking noise when tryng to start.
5- Jump the battery twice, still won't start, battery dies quickly.
6- Change battery, car still won't start, still won't let me give it gas, battery does not die now.
7- Car's injecting initial gas, you can smell it while trying to crank it. Spark plug still sparking.
8- While examining old spark plug, it breaks, and replace it for new spark plug. Car's still giving me the same problem.
9- Checked all fuses.
10- Security light randomly comes on solid sometimes, or just stays completely off. Battery light does the same thing.
11- Tried the 10 minute key on, 10 second key off multiple times. Security light still stays solid at random and completely off at random.

I had a friend come out who hooked up his laptop the car's computer. The dash is displaying the check engine light but his computer is not picking it up. Friend's not sure if it's a problem with the car's computer or his laptop.

Please try to offer me some advice as to where to go from here. Any input is very much appreciated. I can provide a video of what happens when I try to start it if you think that would help. If you have any questions I will answer them ASAP. Thank you so much for your time.

Well it sounds like you have a few issues going on. You've provided some good info.....

I guess we'll start with the last issue 1st and that's the no start. If the security light is on solid or flashing and the car isn't starting you may have and anti theft problem.....Usually the engine will start for a few seconds and then die but I have seen them not crank. The 1st and easiest thing to do would be to pull the codes and see if there are any anti theft codes.....

Normally you will be able to see a theft code in the PCM (engine computer). The BCM (body computer) is the module that deals with anti theft and that is where the actual coded is store and it just forwards it to the PCM. So to be totally sure on this, you need a scanner that can access all modules, not just the PCM and unfortunately that is the only modules the hand held code readers access

So for this problem get the codes pulled any way you can and if there is a theft code, hopefully it's in the PCM. If there are no codes, you really need to access the BCM before you start any other testing...... No codes in either and then you would start the normal checks on a no start for spark & fuel

The other 2 problems sounds like you have a bad battery & dirty throttle body. Load test the battery & clean the throttle body.....

I'm taking it to an auto parts store tomorrow to see if they can check the codes out for me. Do you know how I would need to go about handling a code saying the car thinks it's stolen?

Thanks very much for your time and the reply. *bows*

Now I'm confused. I thought the car wouldn't start? As far as the code goes, let not get ahead of ourselves. If there is a code, there is a flow chart you can flow to diagnose the problem if you have the correct tools...

It will NOT start. We're going to try to tow it with my friend's van. I'm not sure why checking the code would be getting ahead of myself. Thanks for the reply!

Call around & see if one of the places will rent or loan the code readers........ While your over there, have the battery tested to and pick up a can of throttle body cleaner & a little brush to clean the throttle plate with or an old toothbrush will work....

Thanks for the advice. I'm a complete and utter noob so I'll try to figure out how to clean the throttle plate. I'll see what they say about loaning a code reader but was kinduv hoping that one of the employees may have experience with my car and particular issue. Thanks.

That is always a slippery slope. They're not trained to diagnose cars and parking lot diag's can get rather expensive.

It a rather basic system and easy to diagnose with the lock cyl being the common (but not only) failure item but then again we don't even know if this is a theft issue yet....

Here is a quick blurb on your system
