Cap, rotor and wires are what should be changed all together. Change the plugs too if they have a few miles on them.

That's odd, I didn't know that Ford had misfire monitoring on the old EEC IV OBD1 systems.

I missed that, you're right. I'd like to know what "computer" he used to determine that.

It must have been a special computer that Auto Zone uses.

You're missing the point. the car is not programmed to track misfire making it impossible for any computer to tell you which cylinder is misfiring so.... either you are wrong about the year of your car or O'rieleys is lying to you.

I never said it was a misfire. The code read only: CYLINDER 6. that's it.

What is the trouble code number? Ford OBD1 codes are either two or three digit codes.

One easier. It didn't start at all wet and did dry. Whatever told you #6 is messed up as it would start on 5 of 6 anyway. Just mist the dtributor cap at center coil wire while engine cool see if it stalls. If nothing spray that wire and back to coil. If stalls or arching there's the problem spot,

No, it would tell you something specific about cylinder 6 and I don't think that ECM has the ability to isolate anything by cylinder.

The EEC IV has the cylinder power balance function after the KOER test is done. Maybe they got cylinder 6 from that. Otherwise there are no cylinder specific trouble codes.

Re: 1993 TAURUS : CODE READS CYLINDER 6 Sign In

I doubt they had a scanner that could do a power balance test though. Guessing maybe the OP is a few years off on the year but then it wouldn't have a distributor. Also, parts guys don't spend much time with the scan tool on the car. Plug in, see if it will even read, and go. Doubt they would do even the KOEO and KOER tests, just pull history codes.

I doubt those guys could even find the diagnostic connector on that car.
