05 Pontiac grand prix-bypassed ignition switch to start. Stuck in reverse gear no crank

I just finished installing all new gaskets from a blown Head gasket. It started several times after I put everything back together. Now when I try to start the car it does nothing besides a single click from inside the cabin fuse box. There is also a weird high pitched "eeeeeeeeeeeeee...click" that comes from the throttle body which is electriconically controlled. Battery is good and starter is good. I jumped the starter by bypassing ignition switch using a screwdriver on the starter itself. It started up but the front wheels spin in reverse and it sounds like the gas peddle is floored. Any ideas?

Go back and see what got bent up or damaged from the head gasket job. IDK, you did it. Look for where shifter would toggle for changing gears about know it's jammed or something in REVERSE spot and isn't going to trigger the starter by key in that spot. Racing? Another something damaged nor even hooked up, T

It was running after I did the head job. It started and ran like 4 times perfectly. I hand turned the crank and it turns. I used a screwdriver and touched it to the power supply on the starter to the solenoid which started it right up. What happens is the front wheels spin backwards after I jumped the starter and the engine sounds like my foot is flooring the gas. I checked the linkage under the hood for the gear shifter and it moves when I shift. Maybe the transmission shift solenoid? Or the nuetual safety switch? No racing I just fix and sell cars.

None of those things have anything to do with wheels turning backward. Your shift linkage being hooked up wrong is about the only thing that can do that. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

As said you know what you touched to do this. It seemed to work a couple time or so then this? Still there are just things mechanical and wiring you had to unplug and undo that probably just are not tight or still connected. Also look for plug connectors to throttle body for throttle (I think this is electric not cable) if a spade/prong male to female was bent inside just undoing it and putting it back. It thinks it's in reverse plus doesn't trigger the wire by key if in reverse it shouldn't start but yes you forced it to crank, with key in run position - right? Where that pivots you might have bumped or removed needs checking. Can shift most by hand and count clicks. Other whacko stuff is you did disconnect battery, negative cable correct? Just while doing this job. If left on AYOR but was a hood light on and need charging after the job? I'm really not looking for things that were already broken more things that didn't like being disturbed - nothing this old of the newer stuff likes touching much wires and harness holders just one time use for many. Go back it's just most likely something you caused and didn't notice, T
