Chevron and some other gas stations claim to have superior gasoline.

Chevron has "techron".

I have been told by a not so trustworthy source that chevron gas is much better and that it is good to go to chevron at least once in a while as it will clean at your tank and provide other benefits.

Is there any truth to this or is most gasolne basically the same.

By the way I am not talking about premium or plus gas just the standard cheap gas.

Most all retailers now of major chains are advertising whatever brand name they choose to put on their gasoline. What most mean is top tier gasoline.

The federal government has standards for the additive packages in gas that help eliminate deposits and help make better emissions. Even the regular gas now is way better than 20+ years ago because of those minimum standards. Top Tier takes it a step further. It has a higher amount of additives and is better in newer cars.

Tectron is the name of a Chevron branded fuel system cleaner sold in little bottles and meant to be used once or twice a year to clean varnish or deposits from your fuel system. It actually has been about the only additive I have heard of being authorized by GM to help do so. If the gas at this station has this added to it that may be why they are advertising it.

Regular top tier gas from a good station should suffice, but the Chevron stuff will not be harmful to your car. Just going to cost more.

Techron has been an ingredient in Chevron gas for many years.

My few cents: I don't think we'll ever know how much product or claimed NAMED additive they really use? Techron is my fav but buy it, the claimed product to defeat ill effects of ethanol as well and Stabil as I use so little fuel now I seriously worry about it's shelf life.

Notes on whole thing: There are over 200 different formulations mandated by states and within states! Even Summer and Winter changes what MUST be used and the # of refineries (no new ones in decades on end) is just a few most in TX.

Here - MA now a while ago the tanks in the ground must be replaced on a time schedule and once iron ones would ruin fuel or leak to ground so that worry is over mostly.

Look at a map that from MA you can get to a whole bunch of other states in little time with their rules. NH allows NO ethanol if more than 50 miles away from a city of some population and seems true. It's tons better fuel for MPG. Nobody does but weigh a gallon and find out they are not the same weight because of the mix or additives!

Other: Most places except once Sunoco (no longer do it seen at their pumps like a qt. size oil filter) filter fuels before you buy it! You can't as the ethanol keeps the yuk suspended especially when the place is getting fuel itself the junk on the bottom of THEIR huge tanks is all mixed up and you get it! Avoid getting fuel when the place is getting fuel of any brand.

In short I don't think there's a good way to know for sure what you are getting by place or brand?
