The best way to shop for US insurance is to check with a local broker and then
check prices for the direct carriers on the internet. In general, you are looking to purchase
VALUE, i.e. coverage versus price. If you car is old, damaged, or just not worth very much,
you can go with liability only as opposed to full coverage. If you are unsure as to how strong your
insurance company is, ask; What's the "Best's" rating of that insurer?
It should be an A-, A or A+. If not, unless you are a questionable driver or have had many accidents,
I'd keep looking, because the insurer is not that strong financially and you can probably do much better.
A broker has many insurance companies to choose from. Don't get confused between the broker and
the insurance company. The insurance company pays ALL the claims, based solely on their contrat.
Each insurer offers a different contract. It's a very good idea to read your policy and ask lots of questions.
