My ex left an engine behind that I'd like to sell, but I don't want to be taken advantage of. I can't read all the specs (I can't move it!!) but this is what I know:
FORD 351M/400 EGR. Thanks!

Re: EX left engine in garage Sign In

That was a popular engine in late 70s full size cars and trucks by Ford and perhaps just trucks into the 80s.

What condition is it in now with how many known miles? Indoors storage or a lawn ornament? Need more info,

T

THANKS FOR HELPING!!! I THOUGHT NOBODY WOULD ANSWER ME!!! MILEAGE - I HAVE NO IDEA! BUT IT'S BEEN INDOORS, ON AN ENGINE STAND. I THINK I HAVE AN OFFER FOR 200-250, BUT I DON'T KNOW HOW TO TELL IF THAT'S A GOOD PRICE. MY EX KNOWS ALOT ABOUT CARS, AND HE WAS REALLY EXCITED TO GET IT (HE GOT IT FROM A "GUY" HE KNEW THAT OWNED A TRUCKING COMPANY THAT WAS HAVING AN IRS-ENFORCED SALE OF HIS BUSINESS). (I GUESS HE DIDN'T PAY HIS TAXES!) HE did, HOWEVER PAY $100 FOR THE ENGINE STAND. ANYWAY, THANKS AGAIN, AND I APPRECIATE ANY ADVICE YOU CAN GIVE ME IN THE FUTURE. ~BETH

Re: EX left engine in garage Sign In

I'd take the offer and negotiate it with the engine stand unless you want that as a decorationWink

It's condtion can be guessed pretty good on the stand by a compression test and just a look inside valve cover would tell a lot. With some tricks it could be started on the stand if whole.

There should be an orange sticker on the valve cover that tells you not just what family of engine it is but whether it's the 351 or 400 which otherwise look identical and I think would fit either for a replacement.

Again - I knew them and owned them myself in...... 1973 Full size Galaxie 500, 77 LTD, and a 79 Lincoln Continental Town Car. After that I think they were only used in the trucks. They are one of Ford's better engines IMO but not worth a fortune that I know of just sitting there like you said,

Thanks again, Tom. I suppose I'll take the offer just to get is out of my garage. (Unfortunately, he doesn't need the stand.) Frown That's OK, my son will probably rig it up to his skateboard or something equally dangerous. But I really do appreciate the advice (hopefully I'll never need more, but if I do, I'll think of you). By the way, Love the cat! Laugh. ~Beth

Have a yard/garage sale and sell the engine stand.

Thanks! What do you think I should ask for it?

Click here for a site that sells engine stands kind of cheap. You need to compare the one you have to one on the site. A guesstimate would be from 50 to 100 dollars.Good luck
