honda turn signals

I just wanted to post a public service announcement lol
so last month in the shop I had 3 seperate early 90's honda accords come in with turn signals inop and a loud buzzing noise coming from the drivers kick panel. Since I don't have access to identifix, usually before I start an electrical diagnosis I turn to google.
Upon googling the symptoms I found a wealth of bad information, hence my PSA. All 3 cars had a voltage drop in the hazard switch, causing the solid state relay to buzz loudly, and intermittent turn signal operation. The hazards all worked normally however. Was an easy fix to trace with a multimeter, but since I didn't see any mention of it online anywhere I thought if I could post it in a forum it might help someone somewhere. If google can be belived, there's a lot of people pulling their hair out in frustration over this problem lol

Honestly, first time I saw it, first thing I did was throw a flasher at it. The problem persisted. I took apart the old flasher to inspect for burning/mechanical damage and it definitely was not a run of the mill bimetallic flasher. Had a circuit board in it. All of that looked ok so I pulled a diagram off of mitchell, and began to check voltages in and out. The hazard switch had 12v in and 7v out. So I installed a jumper harness to bypass the switch for testing purrposes and everything started to work. And I've found more TSBs on google than in michell. If I had alldata or any other reliable source id use it I assure you :) I may be some dumb but im not plumb dumb, as the saying goes.

Buzzing Noise During Turn Signal Lever Operation (Supersedes 91-008, dated March 1, 1991)
PROBLEM
The turn signal relay makes a buzzing noise when the turn signal lever is operated. This noise does not affect the turn signal's operation. The noise may vary and be intermittent.
CORRECTIVE ACTION
Replace the turn signal/hazard relay with the new unit listed under PARTS INFORMATION.
1. Remove the turn signal/hazard relay from the under-dash fuse box by inserting a small screwdriver underthe holding tab on each side of the relay. Pull the relay straight out. 2. Install the new relay in the fuse box.

I stand corrected. It appears perhaps these hondas in question suffer from multiple problems. The main complaint was not the noise, but the lack of turn signal operation. Connecting the two into a single problem was an error on my part :)

There may be a TSB for a common issue with the flasher but that doesn't mean other things like the turn signal switch can't fail also. Any of them can prevent the signals from working but the buzzing noise is the flasher chattering.

Thanks for posting this info. I am going through this issue with my 96 Accord right now. I was about to swap out the hazard switch which costs me about 60 bucks. I think I'll try the relay first since it's buzzing there. Hopefully this will restore my turn and hazard signals to working order.
Now if I could only find where it is.

Update:
I replaced the relay and the sound has changed from a loud buzzing to a lower clicking sound. This happens only when the hazard is engaged and stops when it is not. Still no turn signals.
