broken frame bolt

is there any tricks out there that dont require removal of the frame to extract the rear frame bolt under the steering column. it broke on me doing an r&r on the rack n pinion .97 monte carlo 3.4
about 2 inches of the bolt is hanging out , i plan on heating it with a lil hand torch n some vise grips but that is after i buy the torch ..

I wouldn't waste my money on a torch id I were you. First off, the torch that you would buy would not have insufficient heat to have any effect . You would need Oxy-Acetalyne and second, you'd be heating the wrong piece. heating the bolt would expand the bolt and make your problem even worse. The only time heat helps is when you are heating the nut to expand it off of the bolts and since that part is inside the frame, that won't happen.

If you're talking about one of the column mounting bolts and you were putting it in when it broke.
Then it's crossed threaded & it's going to need to be drilled out....

I assumed he was talking about a subframe bolt.

You're probably right now that I reread it....... I saw column & thought of the 4 bolt plate that holds the column but you shouldn't have to remove that to do a rack....
If it is a sub-frame bolt and it broke coming out there must be a lot of rust to deal with so it's probably gonna have to be drilled..... I don't think I've ever seen one of those break..........

well torch failed so i ended up bending this lil tab aside(on the out side next to frame) and punching a hole threw the floor board an then just chiseled 3 of the 4 lines in a square an bent it up.needless to say i cut the bracer for the nut and it was out... it sounds like a lot but realy when i went to the yard to get the bolt n nut i did it as fast as my buddy pulled an egr vavle off a saturn.. very short, short cut....good luck to any one else.but worked like a charm for me.
