transmission shifting (shudders) Sign In

2003 Ford Wind Star SEL 3.8 6 cylinder 143,000 miles When shifter is in drive at the time it shifts into overdrive at about 40 mph the transmission shudders (steering wheel shakes) , but always goes into overdrive. and at that point everything is fine. it does this only going into OD. I changed trans fluid 2 times both times red oil and no metal filings. Some mechanics tell me it has to do with the computer, but some say to change the torque converter. Any help is appreciated.

Re: transmission shifting (shudders) Sign In

some things to try BEFORE a converter/ valve body

Be sure to use the correct fluid - NOT universal.
Scan for codes - even if the CEL is off - easy cheap
Try a specific TCC shudder additive - ie LUBEGUARD and I have heard LUCAS has a specific - maybe a colleague will add.

THey are NOT a guarantee but worth trying...
