no first or second gear just changed clutch

please if any one could advise me on why i don't have first or second gear on my 1984 mazada b2000. 3rd 4th 5th and reverse work i changed the clucth before changing the clucth i had trouble getting first or second to engage the clucth was really bad when i removed it

Pokey; You may have inserted the shift lever incorrectly. There is a little "ball" on the end of the shift lever which must go into the "socket" inside the trans. When you pull the shifter back out, you'll see what I mean.
