low range light on Sign In

I have a 97 F-150 4x4 and my low range light is staying on. I hooked it up to the computer and when I checked it says that my 4lo and 4hi are off. When I switch on and off my 4lo the computer reads correctly when it engages and disengages. What would cause my low range light to stay on when my 4lo is off?

Are you getting this data from the GEM with your "computer"? What are you using to interface the GEM?

Is this mechanical or electrical shift on the fly system?

I used a shop grade pro scan tool that my buddy has. Couldn't tell you the name brand off the top of my head. It's a more expensive one though. My truck has the electrical switch.

Re: low range light on Sign In

What list of parameters does your scanner display for the 4wd system?

Can you type them out and their values?

The GEM grounds the low range lamp circuit to turn the lamp on. That means either the lamp circuit is shorted to ground after the lamp, but before the GEM, the GEM is turning the lamp on, or you have a short to ground in the input circuit that goes to the PCM to let the PCM know that four low is engaged.

If you unplug the GEM and turn the ignition on, does the low light illuminate?
