gear shift broken

i have a 99 ford f-250 and the gear shift handle is broken, it will not allow truck to go in any gear. what is going on ? please help!!

http://www.autozone.com/...eId=0900c15280180fc9 This is all the info I could find about that, start at the trans and visually check the linkage and cables, also you might have to disassemble the steering column to find the problem.
