ford taurus stuck in park

I'm not sure what year the taurus is, but it is stuck in park. i looked on other websites, could it be the brake shift interlock system? (or something like that?) does anyone know what the problem may be, and about how much it will be to fix it? thanks..i'm not a car person at all..lol so any help would be great

Check too see if you have brake lights. If not there is the problem. Not to sure what years for sure but there is a recall on the brake light switches on the newer Ford Taurus. If you have to turn the key to the first position, just before the accessory position and it should come out.
