burned up clutch Sign In

i just got stuck and had a friend pull me out. it was obvious to her that i was an idiot for even thinking about attempting to go through what i tried. (i have a 1998 Subaru forester standard trans.) well in the process of pulling me out, my engine/transmission/under the hood starts smoking. it smells like i burnt up the clutch real bad cause i know the smell, but its has never started smoking before. we had a friend of ours who is a mechanic out there helping us and he seemed pretty not worried about my car, even though the check engine light was on, and it was smoking pretty bad. he said really not to worry, its prolly just because of the high oil/liquid temps in the car right now. so im letting it sit and not going to use it until i have to leave for school tomorrow morning. and i asked him that if the light was on tomorrow morning, after everything had a chance to cool, should i bring it in, and he said that yea i could. i just feel really bad and stupid about this whole thing.

if yall have any ideas as to what it could be and if its as serious as i feel that it is, anything would be greatly appreciated

What kind of stuck we're you in? Mud, snow, debris or other? If you "rode" the clutch while being towed out it would hurt it. A good clutch will not slip -- the wheels will spin or the engine stall.

If the check engine light came on right at this incident a wire or something may have been pulled out - hard to say without more info.

I don't think cooling off the car is going to help with this from what I see, T

Re: burned up clutch Sign In

thanks, we brought it to the shop this morning, their Subaru tech wasn't in, so were bringing it back Monday.
when i started it this morning the check engine light was off, and i had the mechanic look to see and it said that it came on for the abs system, because the tires were spinning at different speeds. they didnt seemed to think it was a clutch problem... so i guess thats good news.

thanks anyway

p.s. i was stuck in mud.

Sensors no doubt would be confused with ABS if submerged in mud and would probably reset but there probably is a price to pay down the road for that, T
