Hello, I recently encountered a problem with my Jeep where it wouldnt start. When cranking the keys, the engine wouldn't even turn over, and all that was heard was a faint clicking from under the hood. All of the electrical components in the car turned on, and the battery would read around 11.4 volts on the battery gauge. However, after enough tries with turning the key, the car would eventually start. I figured that the car was just being sluggish in the frozen Wisconsin winter. But, a few days ago the car completely refused to start no matter how many tries it took. I had the car towed to a dealership, and they informed me that the transmission range sensor/neutral safety switch is bad and needed replacing. Could the switch actually be the reason why the car wouldn't start? I would've imagined it to be the starter or the alternator instead of the switch.

The neutral safety switch can cause a no start. It will not allow any current to flow to the starter. It is either an open switch--no start(as in gear) or closed switch--current flows and starts(park or neutral). Your battery voltage was a little low, so I would have that addressed also. The faint clicking indicated low voltage to the starter. Also check to be sure the battery cables are clean and tight on both ends. Good luck.
