Transmission repair? estimate of cost to do so?

Hi, I have a manual 97 Honda Civic and I'm having some problems. When I shift to second gear my car grinds. I'm guessing my transmission has something wrong with it? It has 130,000 miles on the car and I bought it used. I know it has a new clutch in it. Could it be a
simple fix as like changing transmission fluid (I don't think so but what do I know)? Or do you think it
needs to be rebuilt or something? I was hoping I could get an estimate
on how much a transmission to get rebuilt would cost? Also how much
would it cost (estimate) for someone to put a new transmission in it? Thanks in
advance.

How does the clutch pedal feel? Is it spongy or does it have resistance? You may want to start by checking the clutch master cylinder fluid level. If it is low, you should check the slave cylinder for leaks. If all looks fine, you can try bleeding the system first. One air bubble in the system is all it takes for the clutch not to fully disengage causing gear clash. If all is ok, you may just need to replace the synchro for second gear seeing that it's the only gear with a problem. Steve
