Transmission fluid low

2009 nissan xterra
Just bought it used two weeks ago, and decided to check all fluid levels.
Left car on, went through all the gears on the car, then checked the fluid level. Flat garage.
It was only on the bottom tip of the stick, not in the cross hatched area.
Should I add a little genuine nissan fluid to whats in there or do an entire flush then add?

That probably depends on how hot the engine was when you checked that. The fluid level rises when the transmission gets hot so it's supposed to remain within the hatch marks. Don't go more than half way up the hatch with the engine cold.

The engine was off for about two hours and I started it up, then checked right after.

You can add a little but not too much.

I dont need to flush the whole system? The dealer said to instead of adding any. But go figure.

I can't tell you if it needs flushing. You didn't post any mileage, past history or any current problems.

No problems at all. Just checked all the fluids and noticed it was low. No slipping or anything.
137k miles.

It depends on the current condition of the fluid. If it's still clean and pink colored, it would be OK to flush it now but if the fluid shows any signs of burnt smell or dark color, it's probably to late to flush it not because it could cause issues you don't already have. the mileage is a bit high for the first flush.

Why does everyone call it a flush when it is actually a fluid exchange? If you do decide to "flush it" make sure they don't add anything such as cleaners or additives to the ATF.
