I have a 1999 Mazda Protege LX
It currently has 140,000 miles.
I had the transmission fuild (not the transmission filter) in the transmission changed at 110,000. As it is 140,000 now I think that it is time for another service. Also the gear shifts a little hard than before but overall it works just fine.
The previous owner also informaed me that the transmission failed at 80,000 miles. I am not sure if it was either rebuilt or was replaced as brand new under warranty.
But I wanted to ask yo if it is wise to get a transmission service done to such a transmission or just to let it run like it is currently! I dont know if it will start slipping after the transmission service!
If you do recommend the transmission service then what kind of transmission service I should have done.
1) Drain and Fill fluid and change filter
or a
2) Tranmission Flush by the machine
I am not sure if the tranmission flush machine is reliable enough or will blow seals with pressure or cause other damage in the transmission.

My recommendation is to change the filter and have the machine flush. If the valve bodies are getting gummed up causing them to stick until the pressure builds up enough to move them you end up with a harsh shift point. The machine flush is supposed to clean the gum out so they move freely again. Be warned though, often times when a tranny develops an internal problem, a total service often times can make the problem more noticeable. It is up to you to decide but it can be risky. If it is just gum causing this the flush will help.

Should I take it to a transmission shop and have them inspect and test drive the transmission. Can they be held accountable, if they recommend me a transmission flush and I ecounter transmission problems just after the service? What is the normal procedure or what does the law say about that, if any?

I also forgot to tell you that the color of the transmission fluid is pink and not dark at all.

It can't hurt to service the trans as a gamble. I don't think any shop would take responsibility of it curing the problems or not so it's up to you, T

Seeing that you already have a trans problem and you know about it, I don't think that is fair of you to try to put that on a shop that tries to repair it. That is quite underhanded and am glad that you are not bringing your car to me. It isn't the shops fault you have a problem now, don't make it their problem if you have work done and it doesn't fix it. They are mechanics, not scapegoats. Good luck, may you sleep well at night.

NO, my intention is not to blame somebody. I do not currently have a transmission problem! It is just that the gear is slightly a little harder than before! This happened the last time and when I got the transmission service it was just fine after that! I AM NOT THE KIND OF PERSON WHO WOULD MAKE MY PROBLEM, SOMEBODY'S ELSE PROBLEM! i AM A NICE PERSON AND THAT IS THE LAST THING THAT I WOULD I DO!
