Hey Gary,

Today I bought an 02 Accord with a 2.3 V-Tec with 160K on it at the auction.
When I first drove it out of the lot it drove fine. As soon as I got down the road a little bit, I made a right turn and lost everything, no connection in any gear. I pulled over for a second and everything came back. I assumed it was probably low on fluid.

I then got on the turnpike. Everything was fine and I was cruising in overdrive about 75-80MPH when all of a sudden it appeared to go into limp mode and dropped into 2nd gear. Needless to say it sent the RPMs into orbit.

I slowed down a bit and nursed it to the shop. When I got there I realized I had no reverse at all. Just 2nd gear.

I didn't have much time to mess with it but I checked the fluid level which was full and checked for trans codes.

It had

P0720 - output speed sensor
P0730 - Gear ratio incorrect
P0780 - shift malfunction
P1751 - 2-3 shift problem

I assume the speed sensor is the likely cause of the limp mode but what concerns me is what happened to reverse. It was OK when I left the lot.

Do you thinks it's just a big boat anchor now?

Any advice is appreciated Gary

HT,
I personally think you having an issue with the filter, as a test, let the car run for about 30 minutes(but drive it first to see how it works)then see how it works, see if you have reverse, if you dont, shut the car for about 2-3 minutes start it up and see if you have reverse, that will tell you if your filter is clogging up. (very common issue, i do at least one honda/acura a week)Gary
Do you hear any high pitch wine noise?

I may have. I wasn't paying a lot of attention as I was on the turnpike and the RPMs were at 5 K.

I'll go into the shop tomorrow and check. Under this theory I should have reverse after it has been parked a while?

How hard is it to access the screen?

After its been parked, yes you should have reverse. After running a while you may not. Since this trans has no pan, unit has to come out and be split open, but if the filter is the problem, its clogging up because the clutch plates are flaking off.

OK thanks, that was the news I was hoping not to hear.
