Need Old Time Transmission Advice on a Taurus with a Hood Ornament Sign In

I have a 2002 X-type Jag (Taursus w/a Hood Ornament). It's all-time 4WD. The transmission works okay between 1to2 and 2to3. However, when going 3to4 under load it doesn't catch and essentially revs up as if in neutral. I'm cheap and don't want a zillion dollar repair bill. Do I have any inexpensive alternatives? Any old-time mechanic trick I might try?

Thanks

So you are cheap and own a Jag?? That's like one of George Carlin's oxymoronsSmile

The cheap route: Gentlemen -- Place your bets! You can try changing the trans fluid and filter. If it looks real bad it probably is. If it got sticky in the valve body it just may clean it up and work properly but my money is on NOT with the symptoms.

Outside chance that it's an electrical connection or component and you could just inspect the connections for corrosion. Just a maybe on that.

After that you should contact your broker and bite the bullet,

Good luck, T
