There is what I would describe as a grinding noise that is present when accelerating. The noise becomes more rapid with increasing speed. It does not make the noise when in idle, and subsides when the clutch is applied at any speed. Revving the engine in park does not cause the noise. It's definitely from the engine, but tough to localize more specifically than that. It has become progressively worse and I am concerned about having to pay more than the car is worth for a repair if it continues (need it to last 8 more months). What do you guys think? Throw out bearing? Transmission mount? others? Thanks guys.

Clutch is applied .......................... revving the engine in Park? You can't do both. What is this, an automatic or stick shift? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

Stick shift. If I'm driving 30 mph and apply the clutch, the noise will subside. If I'm sitting in my driveway revving the engine, there is no noise.

Sounds like it might be a bearing inside the trans or differential. I'm going to move this thread to the transmission section and maybe one of the trans experts will jump in. I would lean toward a bad pinion bearing.

Thanks. Experts, feel free to request more information. There is no apparent vibration or shaking while driving. I do hear a brief sound from the engine that sounds similar to the grinding when I push in the clutch. No problems shifting into gear.

Sport - you are describing things that are polar opposites making the web a poor choice to determine this noise + source. "It grinds like when you push the clutch and then subsides when clutch is pushed" and so on. So far I can only decipher that this noise is load dependent as in the load on the engine. Now if that's so this could be about anything from a wheel bearing to a differential bearing or even some issue with a driveshaft. Best bet is to let a mechanic drive and witness/feel this. Nothing ruled out yet including exhaust items, heat shields or any motor/trans mounts, T
