Heavy transmission clunking Sign In

When I do rapid acceleration/holding brakes and press gas to high rotations/achieve speed of 30km/h then car make heavy clunking from the transmission. When I decrease speed, it stops.
No bad sounds without shafts/weight

Saab 900 1991 convertible 2.1 100kw automatic FWD
- Reverse gear - slightly slipping
+ CV joints - all good
+ CV inner joint socket - all good (doesnt rattle)

What could it be?
Thanks.

Re: Heavy transmission clunking Sign In

Test for motion or bad motor/trans mounts for the noise.

Slipping as noted is NOT a good sign and probably not this noise but will probably be the reason this trans will need to come out IMO for work or overhaul,

Why would do you something like that? Are you power braking it to do burn outs?

Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.

Burnouts with a SAAAAAB! Home of the two stroke car back when, belts against firewall, ignition key where you spill drinks. Hoods that Houdini couldn't get out of and so on. LMAO,

If it would be turbo manual, I probably would. Saab is rather a nordic type redneck car :)
I first wasnt sure if it was all about transmission, so I wanted to know if the car makes the noise while being still.

Re: Heavy transmission clunking Sign In

I will check out the mounts tomorrow, really dont have no interest to take the trans out from the body.
What do you think, can drive chain make this kind of clucking?

Re: Heavy transmission clunking Sign In

Engine and trans are mounted together on rubber mounts like all vehicles would be. If those mounts are not good the assembly could move too much and clunk, that all.

You could see it with hood open doing those brake stands (means holding brake against engine power suggests spinning wheels while sitting still to me) or place a jack and block of wood just right and lift on engine/trans and see them move or perhaps pry using correct points. Know what you do or can damage things.

So yes - anything that holds anything to do with drivetrain on to the drive wheels that moves from wear or broken could make clunks under loads.

"Nordic Redneck Car" Oh crack me up!!!!!!!!!
