I have an Automatic Isuzu rodeo 2001. The car has a floor gear stick and on the dashboard, between the speedometer and the rpm indicator, there is an electronic gear position indicator. So, if the floor gear stick is in the "D" gear, then the indicator in the dashboard would also be in the "D" position. Shift it to "P" and indicator changes to "P."
Recently, the transmission started behaving oddly. Sometimes I set the gear to "D" and the indicator jumps to "L." The car starts going but you can tell the car is having problems shifting gears (if it does at all). This behavior has been increasingly worsening. I read that the way this mechanism work is with an electronic solenoid that sets the gear to what the driver wants. And if it is damage then that behavior happens.
If someone has seen this before and can tell me what can cause I would appreciate it. Also, what do you think it could cost to fix something like this (a range of course I know this may vary based on many variables)

Thanks!!

Check engine light on? If so, have it scanned to see what codes are stored. Write down the numbers.
