Ford Fiesta style 2005 thrust bearng / gearbox Sign In

Hi I'm trying to repair my girlfriends fiesta 1.25 2005 I'm sure the thrust bearings gone as I can hear the clutch plate rattling when the clutch pedal is depressed. how should I take off the gearbox and what do I need to do to make enough space to take the box off. Should I take off the subframe and can i get access to the steering rack bolts so I don't have to mess with the steering rack, so just drop the sub frame off as I've done for a golf mk4 4motion. Should I undo the main engine mount bolts or will the gearbox tilt enough to be able to clear the gearbox mount. just the main central upright bolt doesn't push down very far with the main engine moun bolts done up. Should I undo the other two bolts for the gearbox mount to take this off from the box to provide more space. thanks Paul

This vehicle not sold in the US where most of us are. Not the point as this should be more general. I interpret you are hearing the throw-out bearing I would call it not the clutch plate (disc) exactly OR the arm that pushes on it loose somehow.

Clutch disc should center on front shaft splines and not make a peep with clutch pedal depressed. Pressure plate is being pushed by the throw-out bearing and shaft is supported by a pilot bushing in crankshaft. Then linkage to do all this.

Make sure what the problem is as all but a strange loose something with the pivot arm to throw-out bearing would require transmission (gearbox) removed,

T
