Did the dealer rip me off? 2006 Honda Civic - Clutch/Slave & Master Cylinder Replacement Sign In

Hello CarJunky.Com members. I recently came across your board and decided to sign up due to a recent concern on a car repair.

A couple months ago I took my:
2006 Honda Civic Lx 4DR with a 5spd manual transmission into the local Honda dealership to have my clutch replaced, as it was slipping. The car at the time had around 100,000 miles. Los Angeles traffic will due that to a clutch.

Honda quoted me around $1700 to replace the clutch and resurface the flywheel. I decide to do it and bring it in.

After 4 days they still had not finished the job and call me to indicate they needed to do a factory airbag recall which would take a couple more days. At the end of the week they install the clutch, but tell me the car would not go into gear and they needed to call the engineers at Honda to figure the issue out. The service advisor then tells me that the problem is a faulty clutch slave and master cylinder not holding pressure. These would both have to be replaced raising my repair bill to $2100. The dealer was able to pay for a rental car for me, the car was in the shop for almost 2 weeks. After it was all said and done I was able to talk the repair bill down to $1900 from $2100.

My question to all of you knowledgeable mechanics who are familiar with Honda's is: When I brought my Honda Civic in, it needed a new clutch because it was worn out and slipping, but it still went into gear and could drive. Did Honda rip me off by saying, after taking out the clutch, suddenly the clutch slave and master cylinder needed to be replaced? It seemed like these parts were working when I brought it in and this was a way for them to get some extra $$$ out of me.

I would also like to note that the car does make extra noise that seems to be coming from the master cylinder area, the car almost sounds like a diesel now when it accelerates.

Needless to say I will no longer be bringing my vehicle back to this dealer.

I appreciate any helpful answers to this post.
Thank you.

You pay for factory OEM parts and have certified Honda techs at the dealer do a clutch job and you will pay big money. What they charged sounds about right for a dealer level repair.

It's possible for an old slave and master to fail during clutch replacement on a 12 year old vehicle.

You should have them check out the noise. It may be something related to their repair.

Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.
