Car does not move when in any gear Sign In

2000
Lexus ES 300
3.0 V-6
152K miles
Auto
Tranny = U140E

When I shift into any gear the car will not budge, it does not even engage at all. I have checked the fluid level. There are no OBDII codes. Not sure what else to check.

Could this be Torque Converter? Or a Pump? It seems odd that it does not even engage in any gear. Also, when I start the engine I hear a whirring noise coming from the tranny.

Any ideas how to proceed troubleshooting this before I pull it out of the car?

Thanks.

Check the fluid level when it's off and check when its running if it doesn't the level should drop slightly while it's running since the pump would be pumping the trans fluid.
I would suspect a pump issue if there is no change.

Any trouble codes stored in the ECU?
Need to do a pressure test to see if you have line pressure.

Also make sure the vehicle can't be pushed in park. If it can, look at your CV axles.
