hello
I have a peugeot-206 1999 manual driving model, it has 191k mileage. it runs very smoothly when i am driving with very minimum smoke but when I stop at the red light even on neutral gear, it increases the RPM even I am not pressing the accelerator, it also automatically accelerates when on gears or driving but when it is stopped at red light, sometime it leaves lots of white smoke & sometime stops the engine & takes 6-5 key turning or 2-3 mins stuck on the main road but when it re-starts, the pick-up is extremely slow with some shaking but thereafter it runs very smoothly again with no smoke leaving.
I took it to the mechanic & he said some electronic problem but unable to say anything without checking everything :-(
Please suggest what to do & how much should this cost ? I want to use this car for another 6 months due to re-location to a different country.

Without the mechanic being able to look at it closer to find the cause, there is no way to know what the cost is going to be. It needs to be diagnosed. I'm guessing this is a diesel, and we don't have this car here in the states.

Hello
Thanks for your reply, it is the basic petrol version & I live in Finland so it is normally cold here, in the morning it is +5 degrees already now.

Believe this or not, a miss fire along with white smoke can indicate raw fuel is going into the exhaust creating a cloudy gas vapor. The white smoke won't have a coolant smell, but will have a raw gas smell and will burn your eyes. This can happen if a fuel injector is stuck open.
Need to figure out which cylinder is missing and then determine why.

my car doesn´t leave the smoke all the time, when I start it is smooth & no smoke, when I drive for about 5 mins & stop at the red light, it sometime runs smoothly but most of the time at the red light, it starts increasing the acceleration to 1-3* RPM and when it leaves some white smokes, the engine always can´t load the car & stops. it takes about 5-6 try & 2 mins and then it re-starts & car runs smooth again with no smoke. I dont know if I will have big risk if I continue driving like this but I have seen that it gives this trouble only when I stop at red light. therefore I just drive this car 10 mins in morning & 10 mins in eve. just to go to office & supermarket.
When I am driving this car, this runs smoothly with no smoke but acceleration (RPS) is automatically increased even I don´t step on accelerator, so in the city I dont even press the accelerator & car drives smoothly at around 2 RPM.
Mechanic says head gasket is ok, he checked the car with computer but unable to find any problem, but he says something is wrong in electric.
