98Grand-am tranny troubles

1998 Pontiac -grand am,gt 3.1L v-6auto.&has 97023miles\I was driving my grand-am &slowed down to make a turn onto the on ramp,when i accelerated it was like my transmission was in neutral?did not make any noises or smoke or anything?checked trans fluid it is full & doesnt look burnt or smell burnt.is there some sort of electrical switch\sensor ? that could cause this?
The transmission was working fine b-4 this happened no problems @all!just suddenly quit working &car wont move in any gear fwd or rev
