Hello everyone,

First time posting, but i've been having issues with my 97 Lumina. It's only the 2nd car I've had, I treat mine with care.

But lately I've been having a tranny issue with it, I usually have to wait 2-5m for the car to kick into gear.

It's a 97 Lumina 3.1L, 150k miles.

I've changed the fluid, thats what I keep hearing the problem is. Did nothing, I talked to some guy at the bar who claimed to be a mechanic, he said something about some wires not being pulled (Yeah I dunno it was a bar).

Wondering if anyone knows what it might be. Thank you in advance.

Hi and welcome to the site!

To clarify -are you saying this starts up and doesn't go into any gear for 2-5 minutes AND then behaves?

Did you change the fluid yourself?

Check the level again now when warmed up a bit even if in place. Make sure car is level, idling in park and check more than once. What I'm thinking for now is fluid level is low, pick up screen/filter isn't low enough in the pan or isn't sealed properly. It just seems like it can't build up pressure to engage bands which might be real trouble but might also do this if truly low or can't pick up fluid where it is now. This might apply IF it behaves when warmed up,

T

Ps: Any chance dipstick isn't the right one for this car?

Got a friend who is pretty good with cars, he changed the fluid.

And yes, after that 2-5m it behaves with the rare occasion when I stop it will disengage(act like its in N) but then usually engages again.

But I'm not sure about the fluid, i'll check that out and let you know what happens. Pretty sure the dipstick is the right one. Can't be + though.

Thank you.
