96 Prizm hard shift

Have 1.6 with 3 speed auto. When cold it shifts into reverse and drive no problems but when at running temp it sorta smacks/jerks into gear. It only does it when going from D to N then into R or the other way around. If I go from R to N back into R it doesn't do it. It shifts through the gears smoothly though.
I changed the fluid and filter about 20k miles ago because it was due. Not because of this problem. Fluid is fine. Any ideas as to what it could be? There is a wobble seem to be coming from the passenger side when accelerating could a worn axle joint cause this?
